The late Clyde Lovellette was the first basketball player in history to play on an NCAA championship team an Olympics gold medal winning basketball team and an NBA championship squad. A two-time All-State performer at Garfield High School in Terre Haute Indiana Lovellette later attended the University of Kansas where he led the Jayhawks to the 1952 NCAA title capturing MVP honors and scoring a then-NCAA tournament record 141 points. He remains the only college player to lead the nation in scoring and win the NCAA title in the same year. Lovellette's dominance in the paint earned him a place on the 1952 U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball team where he quickly established himself as the team's most dominating player and leading scorer in Helsinki Finland. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA for four different teams winning three titles with the Minneapolis Lakers and Boston Celtics. In 1988 he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He passed away from cancer last year..

This lot features Lovellette’s National Basketball Association Uniform Player Contract with the St. Louis Hawks for the 1962-63 season. Signed by Lovellette and the team president the contract was cemented on August 7 1962 and would mark his last campaign in St. Louis before he joined the Celtics for the last two years of his storied career. His agreed salary for the 1962-63 season as indicated on page 1 section 2: $15000. My how times have changed! Contract comes in EX condition with corner and edge wear as well as four evenly spaced creases from originally being folded into an envelope.

Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
