Bob McNeill was a 6’ 1” point guard who played in the NBA from 1960 to ’62. Selected in the third round of the 1960 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks he also played for the Philadelphia Warriors and Los AngelesLakers averaging five points and three assists per game during his short NBA career. Perhaps his claim to fame was playing in five games for the Lakers intheir 1962 NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics (four games to three). As brief an NBA career as O’Neill had even briefer was his stint for a short-lived NBA team called the Chicago Packers who went on to become the Baltimore Bullets before being renamed as today’s Washington Wizards. The Chicago Packers franchisewas established in 1961 but was renamed the Zephyrs the following season before moving to Baltimore in 1963.
This lot features a 1961 Chicago Packers jersey that O’Neill wore during the preseason. He would eventually wind up elsewhere but this incredible rare jersey was one he wore during his short-lived tenure with the Packers. The navy blue dureen jersey shows moderate game use with “CHICAGO” arched across the front in orange on white tackle twill. O’Neill’s jersey number “7”follows in similar fashion right below the city name. The proper “MacGregor” manufacturer’s tag [size 38] appears sewn onto the inside front tail of the jersey. His jersey number “7” graces the back of the jersey in orange on white tackle twill stretching nine inches tall. Lastly white orange and blue piping appears onthe sleeves and around the collar. An incredibly rare NBA jersey from one its shortest-tenured teams in history. The jersey shows ample usage and comes in outstanding all-original condition as suggested by its perfect A10 grade from MEARS.
