August 18, 2012, marked Major League Baseball’s 6th Civil Rights Game. The annual Sunday celebration highlights baseball’s unique role in advancing the Civil Rights Movement. The annual game is especially important to Dodgers players and fans because of the team’s signing of Jackie Robinson in 1947, which shattered baseball’s color barrier. Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw was in the midst of a superb year in 2012, which would see him win 14 games with a 2.53 ERA, 229 strikeouts, and lead the league in ERA for the second consecutive year. Worn by Kershaw during that year’s Civil Rights Game, the future Hall of Famer’s New Era 59Fifty cap shows light use throughout. The colors remain bright, and the sweatband and outer crown show evidence of wear. An MLB Auth. hologram (EK051689) is affixed to the underside of the brim.
