Besides playing a pivotal part in the Chicago Cubs' historic run to the 2016 World Series title which included nine runs batted in during the World Series versus Cleveland durable shortstop Addison Russell also turned in an impressive regular-season campaign: 125 hits including 21 home runs and 95 runs batted in. The 22-year-old was also named to his first National League All-Star squad and actually finished 19th in the N.L. MVP voting.This lot features Russell's game-worn Chicago Cubs 1988 Throwback home uniform from a July 20 2016 game against the visiting New York Mets. The Cubbies pulled out a 6-2 victory thanks in part to Russell's 3-for-3 day at the plate that included two RBI.
The uniform is covered in dirt from Russell's busy day starting with the V-neck Majestic Authentic Collection blue-and-white pinstriped polyester jersey (size 44) that includes proper manufacturer's tagging on the front left tail. An official MLB Authentication label appears below the Majestic tagging with hologram # JB 343628. The 1988 style Cubs logo patch appears across the left breast in red white and blue tackle twill. An embroidered Cubbies patch appears on the left sleeve just above the Majestic manufacturer's logo. The reverse features Russell's uniform number "27" in blue tackle twill numerals (7 7/8" tall) sewn directly onto the back of the jersey below the official MLB embroidered patch on the neckline. A considerable amount of Wrigley Field dirt still stretches across the front of the jersey.
The accompanying pinstriped polyester pants include proper Majestic manufacturer's tagging on the inner left rear waistband: "#27 2016 33-40-33.5 OBC." The blue elastic waistband still includes the original drawstring on the zippered pants. More dirt stains from the Wrigley Field infield cover the front and back of the pants making it a cinch to photo-match (Getty 578063808). This awesome game-worn uniform from such a historic season would make for a coveted keepsake in any self-respecting Cub fan's collection.
