After signing with the Cubbies in 2009 at the tender age of 17 Venezuelan catcher Willson Contreras made his MLB debut on June 17 2016. The now 24-year-old did not disappoint taking over as the team's regular backstop and batting .282 with 12 homers 35 RBI and an impressive .845 OPS over 76 games and 283 plate appearances. This lot features his game-used bat from his fine rookie season which just so happened to coincide with the Cubs' epic WorldChampionship run ending the longest title drought in pro sportshistory. During the postseason Contreras batted .256 with the highlight being his solo home run off Clayton Kershaw in Chicago''s NLCS Game 6 clincher.
The 34" 31.6 oz. Zinger X Series professional model black bat is speciallyengraved in the barrel his No. "40" name and date of production ("061616-04"). The bat reflects excellent game usage with pine tar (or Mota stick) running up the entire handle which has been taped on the upper handle to secure a long 12" crack. Plenty of ball contact and blue cleat marks on the barrel. The knob has a "34" sticker for the length and the barrel end is hollowed out with "31.6 oz" penned in black. The MLB Authentication hologram confirms use on 7/1/16 in a 10-2 loss to the Mets in which Contreras caught the whole game and went 1-4 with a run and RBI.
