There aren’t enough exclamation points to add to Cal Raleigh’s 2025 season. The Seattle Mariners’ All-Star slugger blasted 60 home runs to set MLB single-season records for a switch-hitter and a catcher – surpassing Salvidor Perez’s 48 dingers in 2021 and Mickey Mantle’s 56 long balls in ’61, respectively. Coming off an outstanding 2024 campaign in which he won the AL’s Gold Glove and Platinum Glove awards, the “Big Dumper” nearly doubled his previous career-high in homers and led the AL with 125 RBI, making a strong case for league MVP honors. He also passed Ken Griffey Jr. as the franchise’s single-season home run leader. More importantly to Cal, the Mariners won the AL West and came within one game of the ALCS. Just entering his prime with a stacked roster returning in 2026, the 28-year-old superstar is bound to have more opportunities to bring a World Series to the Emerald City.

Being a left-handed hitter’s helmet with the ear flap on the right side, Cal used it every single game that he batted lefty from the beginning of the season until it got cracked and had to be replaced. So how did it get cracked, by a foul ball or wild pitch? Not even close.

On June 10, 2024, the Mariners came back from a 4-0 deficit against the Chicago White Sox to win in dramatic fashion at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. With the score tied at four, Raleigh stepped up in the bottom of the ninth facing right-hander Jordan Leasure with the bases loaded. On a 2-0 pitch, he crushed a line-drive deep into the right-field bleachers. A walk-off grand slam! The crowd erupted as Cal rounded the bags. Mayhem met him at home plate and Raleigh tossed his batting helmet some 20 feet in the air. Cal later signed the helmet on the brim in bold silver marker at 2025 Spring Training. The navy blue Rawlings helmet is properly tagged on the interior and comes in size 7-3/8 with a Mariners decal on the forehead and Cal’s uniform No. “29” decal on the rear. There is a ton of visible wear, and it still reeks a bit from his head sweat. Dozens of contact marks and paint chips on the exterior made it easy to photo-match as these match points were there long before the walk-off granny.
