2016. What a year for Anthony Rizzo and the Chicago Cubs! Front runners virtually the entire season the Cubbies put an end to the “lovable losers” tag bestowed on them for over a century with an exciting World Championship run full of drama and ultimately euphoria. The moment of victory came in Game 7 of the Fall Classic when third baseman Kris Bryant fielded a ground ball and tossed it to over to Rizzo at first who instinctively tucked that special baseball in his back pocket. These offered pink cleats were part of that journey and Rizzo sported them for the Cub’s Mother’s Day game at Wrigley against the Washington Nationals on May 8 2016. The lefty slugger went 2 for 6 on the afternoon as the Cubbies prevailed in extra innings on Javier Baez’s walk-off homer run in the bottom of the 13^th. Rizzo won his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards in 2016 and earned his third straight All-Star appearance with career-highs across the board batting .292 with 32 homers and 109 RBI.

These pink Nike cleats are the “Lunar Trout 2” line originally made for Mike Trout. They come in size 14 with two large white Swoosh logos on the outside. The interior tagging indicates “PROMO SAMPLE” and “SEASON SU16.” The insoles have a special Mother’s Day designed “MOM” stamped on the heel surrounded by five roses. Both cleats show outstanding game use with dirt still stuck to some of the metal spikes. (See Getty 530213590 and  530213756 for matches.) Rizzo’s No. “44” is marked in blue pen on the outsoles. He has signed and inscribed each shoe on the toes. The left inscription reads “Game Used Mother’s Day 5/8/16  2-6”. The right says the same only Rizzo mistakenly wrote “5/28/16” for the date. What a great pair of cleats in a rare style to own from one of the game’s biggest stars today with impeccable authentication from MLB and Fanatics.
