This atmospheric shot shows Lou Gehrig in action during his 2,000th consecutive game. The historic milestone took place in Yankee Stadium on May 31, 1938, against the Boston Red Sox. This image shows Gehrig tossing his bat towards the Yankees dugout after receiving a first-inning walk from Boston’s Johnny Marcum. Red Sox catcher Gene Desautels is getting ready to return the ball to the mound as home plate umpire Cal Hubbard looks towards the next Yankees batter. Gehrig would collect a hit during the 12-5 shellacking of the Red Sox. The Type 1 photo displays a warm patina throughout. The white borders have some wear, including a small piece missing on the bottom right corner that does not intrude into the image. The reverse has the Acme Newspictures credit stamp, several handwritten notations, Baseball Magazine Collection hologram, and the original caption slug affixed. The photo has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
