Featured here is one of Ohtani’s weapons of choice from his first MVP season of 2021 with the L.A. Angels. In fact, the bat has been conclusively photo-matched to three straight games (September 16-18) when “Sho-Time” went a combined 5-for-12 (all singles) at the dish. The ASICS pro model ‘OS17’ birch bat with a black finish displays outstanding use with a repaired handle crack. Ball contact marks cover the barrel with evidence of blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs. There are cleat marks on the back barrel as well. Japanese letters, “Goldstage” and “Birch” are stamped in white on the front barrel. “OS17”, “M-S” and “062821” (manufacturing date) are stamped on the knob end. Length is 33.5” and weight is 31.3 ounces.
MatchDocs has provided a four-page letter detailing the photo-matches. John Taube of PSA/DNA has authenticated the bat with a GU 9 grade. Also included MLB Authentication hologram sticker (VS690616) certifying the last game Ohtani used the bat (9/18/21) before it cracked.
