Featured here is a piece that's sure to excite the loyal Cubs fan and nostalgic baseball collector: a gorgeous 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series full-size replica trophy made to almost the exact same specifications as the official Commission's Trophy issued to the team last fall. The Cubbies ended their 108 years of misery and lovable-loser tag by knocking off the Cleveland Indians in a thrilling 7-game series.
The trophy features 30 gold-colored plated flags one for each of theMajorLeague teams (pre-2000 versions included name of each team). The flagsrise at different lengths (highest is 24") above a silver baseball withlatitude and longitude lines symbolizing a glove of the world. Aroundthe bottom of the flags is a gold-colored ring panel engraved "PRESENTEDBY THE COMMISSIONER OF BASEBALL." Around the entire perimeter of thesilver-colored base section is engraved "CHICAGO CUBS 2016 WORLD SERIESCHAMPIONS" with an etching of the MLB logo. Underneath the base isvirtually the same powerful inscription with the Cubs' famous 'W" in themiddle to symbolize the Wrigley Field tradition of raising a "W" flagafter a Cubs win. This hidden engraving on the bottom has appeared onthe Commissioner's Trophy for the past few years. (Please forgive the glare on our photo of the bottom.)
The trophy stands 28 inches (71 cm) tall including the 4" base and has a diameter of 13.75 inches (35 cm) which is a few inches more than the original. It weighs 18 pounds (10 lbs. lighter than the original) and is made of what appears to be a brass with a nickel finish. (Unfortunately this one is not made of Sterling Silver with 24-karat vermeil stitching on the baseball dome.) It presents essentially brand new with just a few light scratch marks. The maker of the original trophy is Tiffany & Co. and has been since 2000. The maker of this replica version is unknown. What a beautiful rendition!
