With 24 Grand Slam singles titles and still going strong at age 39, Novak Djokovic has separated himself from Rafael Nadal (22 majors) and Roger Federer (20 majors) as the greatest tennis player of all time. This HEAD Speed Pro racquet was match-used by Djoker during the 2010 Davis Cup tournament, which was ultimately won by Serbia for the proud Slavic nation's first-ever Davis Cup title. Trailing 1-2 going into the final day of matches, Djokovic led his Serbian team to a thrilling 3-2 comeback over France. It completed an incredible run by the unseeded Serbs after four grueling rounds played over eight months against much deeper national squads.

Since 2009, Djokovic has endorsed and used HEAD Speed racquets on tour. This one has an 18x20 (vertical by horizontal) string pattern and a 27.5-inch frame painted black and white with silver accents. “NOVAK” is labeled within the throat across from a manually affixed “SUN 27.5” white sticker, which corresponds to the day the racquet was strung (Sunday) and its frame length. Novak is very particular about his frames, in this case placing two 1" gray strips of lead tape on both sides of the inner beam to achieve his desired weight on the head. His custom grip is double-wrapped over the Calfskin leather, creating side bevels to make it more rectangular. In addition, he uses a unique natural gut material (from sheep or cow intestines) for his vertical strings. His racquets are strung at such high tension that the vertical gut strings tend to break on their own just a few months after use, as is the case with this one.

Our Serbian consignor attended the 2010 David Cup Final, held December 3-5 in Belgrade, Serbia, and received this racquet personally from Djokovic in the locker room after his historic Cup-clinching match. Novak autographed the racquet in person on the grip tape, giving it exceptional provenance tied to one of the defining moments of his early career. Unfortunately, the exact Davis Cup match in which it was used is unknown. The outer frame has a couple light court scratches, and there appears to be a slight crack in the upper throat. The grip shows Djokovic's hastily applied autograph in black marker, certified by a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
