A spectacular trophy from a landmark moment in American tennis history, this silver trophy cup was awarded at the 1995 Davis Cup Semifinal in which the United States defeated Sweden 4-1 to advance to the Davis Cup Final. At the peak of their storied rivalry, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi — ranked #1 and #2 in the world at that time — led the U.S. squad through this semifinal en route to the title.
The semifinal was contested September 22-24, 1995, at the Sheraton Desert Inn, one of Las Vegas's most legendary properties. The resort, which operated under Sheraton ownership from 1993 onward, was demolished in 2000 and replaced by the Wynn Las Vegas in 2005. For the United States, the 1995 Davis Cup title was the nation's 31st overall as they defeated Russia 3–2 in the final held December 1-3, 1995, in Moscow. The Las Vegas semifinal was the stepping stone to that triumph, eliminating the defending champions and clearing USA's path to glory.
The trophy itself is large and elegant two-handled urn/cup made of silverplate, weighing 4 lbs. (1.8 kg) and standing 10" tall with a diameter of 9" at the top opening and 11" of width including the handles. Etched on the front is "Sheraton Desert Inn, USA vs Sweden, Davis Cup, Winner." The shiny metal has wonderful display quality with no visible tarnishing despite three decades of age.
A letter of provenance is provided by the consignor who acquired it from the estate sale of Hollywood executive, Harvey Bibicoff, who frequented many high-level tennis events with VIP hospitality. An extraordinary artifact from the coveted Agassi-Sampras era of men's tennis.
