Before DeMarcus Cousins became a double-double machine in the NBA he was one of John Calipari’s top five-star recruits as first-year head coach at the University of Kentucky. The beefy 6’ 11” center averaged 15.1 points 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as freshmen for the Wildcats in 2009-10 as he and point guard John Wall helped Coach Cal get off to a school-record 19-0 start in his first season at the helm breaking the legendary Adolph Rupp’s previous record of 11-0. Kentucky finished with NCAA’s best overall record that season at 35-3 winning the SEC regular season and tournament titles before falling as a #1 seed to West Virginia in the East Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament.
This offered UK practice jersey was worn and autographed by Cousins during his lone 2009-10 season in Lexington. The blue/gray reversible jersey has “KENTUCKY” on the front and his No. “15” on the back in alternating colors. Nike Elite tagging in size 3XL with a Length +6” flap tag appears on the blue side at the front left tail. Cousins has signed the gray side next to the back numbers in 8/10 black marker. The jersey displays moderate wear and can be matched to practice photos from the 2009-10 season. It comes from the personal collection of a UK alum with close ties to the program. A great piece to commemorate one of Coach John Calipari’s best “One-and-Done” prodigies. The Sacramento Kings made Cousins their fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and the three-time All-Star—now with the New Orleans Pelicans—has turned into perhaps the most dominant big man in the league.
