Presented here is a 2008 UEFA Euro Cup reproduction medal gifted to a staff member of the Spanish National Football Team. UEFA issued only 35 original gold winner's medals (made of pure gold) to Spain's players, coaches and top executives after winning the 2008 Euro Cup held in Austria and Switzerland. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (Real Federación Española de Fútbol; RFEF), the governing body for Spain's national soccer team, received permission to issue additional medals in gold-plated bronze and distribute to other Spanish assistants and officials involved with the 2008 Euro Cup. La Roja defeated Germany 1-0 in the Final match thanks to a goal from Fernando Torres to win their second Euro Cup, and first since the nation's inaugural appearance in 1964. David Villa won the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer with four goals, while midfielder Xavi was named Player of the Tournament. It was the beginning of a glorious run for Spain as they would win the 2010 FIFA World Cup and then repeat as Euro Cup champions in 2012.
Apart from the metal composition, the medals are identical in appearance to their original pure gold counterparts, right down to the loop and red ribbon features. The obverse has the UEFA EURO 2008 Austria-Switzerland logo. The reverse has a depiction of the official EURO Cup trophy named after Henri Delanauy, the French football executive largely responsible for the creation of a European Football Championship between World Cup even off-years. Measuring 6 cm in diameter and weighing 106 grams (ribbon included), this one presents in NM condition with light wear. Comes in its original Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) pouch. Includes LOA from Brazil National Team (CBF) Coordinator. who acquired it from the Spanish recipient.
