Copa América is one of the world's oldest soccer competitions and has traditionally featured only South America countries to determine the best national team in the continent. The first one took place in 1916, hosted and won by Argentina. La Albiceleste (White and Sky-Blues) have won the tournament 14 times, but Uruguay leads with 15. Surprisingly, Brazil is third with nine Copa titles. Since 1993, at least two teams -- one or more from North America and one from Asia -- have been invited outside of South America's usual 10 CONMEBOL [South American Football Confederation] teams.
The 2007 edition was held in Venezuela and featured 12 nations. The United States and Mexico were the two non-CONMEBOL invitees. The US was ousted in group play losing to Argentina, Columbia and Paraguay, whereas Mexico made it all the way to the Semi-final where they lost 3-0 to Argentina. The eventual Champions, Brazil ended up demolishing the Argentinians 3-0 during the final with goals from Baptista and Dani Alves along with a fortunate own goal from Ayala. Presented here is one of the gold medals issued to a technical coordinator from the CBF. The obverse presents in MINT condition and features a two-dimensional design of the Copa América trophy along with, "COPA AMERICA" at the top and "AL CAMPEON 2007" at the bottom. The reverse features the CONMEBOL logo, "C.S.F" with depictions of each of the 10 CONMEBOL national flags surrounding the perimeter.  The well crafted, gold plated medal (60mm in diameter; 106 grams) hangs from a solid red ribbon and comes in MINT condition with almost no wear at all.  Includes LOA from Brazil National Team (CBF) Technical Coordinator, who is also the nephew of former CBF President Ricardo Teixeira.
