This game featured two teams ending long Super Bowl appearance droughts. The Colts who finished with a 124 regular season record were making their first Super Bowl appearance since winning Super Bowl V in the 1970 season during the team's tenure in Baltimore; they had moved to Indianapolis in 1984. Meanwhile the Bears who posted an NFC-best 133 regular season record were making their first appearance since winning Super Bowl XX in the 1985 season. In addition the Bears' Lovie Smith and the Colts' Tony Dungy both became the first African-American head coaches to coach in the Super Bowl.
In the first Super Bowl played in rainy conditions the Colts overcame a 146 first-quarter deficit to outscore the Bears 233 in the last three quarters. Victorious Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning was named the game's Most Valuable Player completing 25 of 38 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown with one interception for a passer rating of 81.8.
This beautiful 2006 Indianapolis Colts 14K white gold Super Bowl World Championship ring was presented to Strength Coach Rich Moscarello. The top of the ring features an eye-popping Colt horseshoe logo set atop a sea of real diamonds. A Super Bowl trophy in real diamonds stands between the Colt logo. "WORLD CHAMPIONS is lettered above and below with 9 real diamonds on each side. On one side is raised "MOSCARELLO" "OUR TIME" and the Colts horseshoe logo. On the other is INDIANAPOLIS" "OUR TIME" "29-17" "2006" and a raised image of the Super Bowl logo. Inside band is stamped "HJ 14K" and engraved in script "Rich Moscarello". Ring size: 15 1/4. Gorgeous ring in near perfect condition.
