2006 marked the 106th season for the Detroit Tigers franchise. It was a huge year for the team, as they were the surprise success story of baseball. It was the first season in which the team finished with both a winning record and made the playoffs since 1987. The team finished the regular season just one game behind the division-winning Minnesota Twins but secured a Wild Card spot easily. The team ran into the Yankees in the ALDS, a team that boasted a lineup of nine All Stars. The Tigers emerged victorious 3-1. In the ALCS, the Tigers easily handled the Oakland A's, sweeping the AL West champs with ease.
This 2006 American League Championship ring is a sparkling reminder of that historic season for a long-suffering franchise that broke through in memorable fashion. The 14K gold ring is studded with numerous diamonds on both the face and the left shank. The iconic logo "D" is found on the ring face, with "American League Champions" in raised lettering at the edges. The left shank offers another logo "D" and figural tiger beneath the surname "Ilitch." The ring is a staff level ring presented to one of former owner Mike Ilitch's family members. The right shank states the year "2006" above the seal of the American League. Interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K" and engraved with the team motto, "Nine Full Innings." Size: 9, Weight: 55 grams.
