This is an important 2005 Diamondbacks game-worn alternate jersey worn by the team's greatest star Luis Gonzalez. After nine seasons with the Cubs and the Astros and a solid if unspectacular record Gonzalez blossomed as a star of the first order during his tenure with Arizona. He helped the Diamondbacks into title contention immediately hitting a career-best .336 in 1999 then astonished much of the baseball world in 2001 when he hit 57 home runs his personal best for one season and almost twice as many as he hit in any other season. The total is the third most in National League history for a left-handed batter (behind Barry Bonds' record 73 which also came in 2001 and Ryan Howard who hit 58 in 2006). In a 19-year career that will tempt Cooperstown voters he batted .283 and socked 354 home runs and knocked in 1439. On the inside front left tail of this jersey is the "Majestic" manufacturer's tag with small "48" flap tag attached below. A white strip tag is applied to the collar with "2005 036" embroidered in black stitching. Across the front is "ARIZONA" in purple on white on gold tackle twill. Across the back of the jersey is the player name "GONZALEZ" in purple on white tackle twill sewn directly on the jersey. Below is the player number "20" in purple on white and gold triple tackle twill. On the back of the collar is an official MLB logo patch. On the left sleeve is the "Majestic embroidered logo and above that is the "Diamondbacks" logo patch. The sleeves of the shirt are ornately trimmed in knitted teal and purple with gold highlights. Gonzalez has added a striking silver Sharpie autograph to the bottom of the "2" on his uniform number on the back. The jersey is properly tagged and shows light game use.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
