This torch was used in the flame relay for the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. An olive leaf served as the inspiration for the first Olympic torch that traveled to all five continents carrying the message of peace for the Athens Summer Games of 2004. The flame touched all five continents in 2004 (thanks to air transportation) and lasted 142 days. The torch's ergonomic curved design gives the look of the continuation of the flame from the torchbearer's hand. Greek designer Andreas Varotsos intended to express "Pan Metron Ariston" (Greek for 'all things in moderation'). Weighing 700 grams (1 lb. 9 oz.) and measuring 68 cm (2 feet 3 inches) the silver-colored magnesium and olive wood shaft appear in their natural colors. A blue olive leaf emblem with "?T??? 2004" and the five Olympic rings adorn the shaft. The flame area shows signs of being lit. Presents in Near Mint condition overall. Comes with its original box (poster tube) and is accompanied by an official relay certificate making for a nice set.
