Ralph Vaughn was a standout collegiate basketball player for the USC Trojans in the late 30s. He led the Pacific Coast Conference in scoring his senior season (193940) by averaging 15 points per game and was named a Consensus First Team All-America selection. That season Vaughn led the Sam Barrycoached Trojans to their first ever NCAA Tournament losing in the national semifinals. Vaughn once scored 36 points in a single game against UCLA which was a conference record that stood for 21 years. This lot includes three specific items related to Vaughn: his crystal bowl trophy (8" wide by 9" tall) that he was awarded posthumously in 2001 upon his induction into the USC Athletics Hall of Fame; an original LIFE Magazine cover on which he appeared entitled Best Basketballer from January 15 1940; and a black-and-white 8 x 10 photo of Vaughn in his USC uniform taken during his playing days in college.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
