Presented here is an early Yao Ming 2003-04 game-worn home jersey from his second NBA season. The 7’6” 310-pound center from China captivated basketball fans worldwide in an 8-year career spent entirely with the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately injuries to his feet cut his NBA career short. Known for an arsenal of offensive moves on the block and an uncannily soft shooting touch for a man his size Yao was pretty much un-guardable in the post when healthy. Even Shaq admits that Yao was the toughest center he ever had to defend. Fittingly both giants will be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame this September as part of Naismith’s 2016 induction class. Yao finished with career averages of 19 points 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks and was an All-Star every season. As a sophomore in 2003-04 he put up 17.5 points and 9 boards per night and started all 82 games for Houston.
The massive white home jersey has the appropriate Reebok Team Apparel tagging on the front left tail with the NBA Authentics and Houston Rockets logos plus four flag tags: size 56 PLAY Dry 2003-2004 and +4 LENGTH. Across the front is "ROCKETS” in red tackle twill shadowed in black outline. Yao's famed No. “11” appears front and back in the same format. Red trim lines the collar while red and white yokes run from the shoulders down both sides of the shirt (front and reverse). The NBA embroidered logo patch appears on the upper left chest. His last name “YAO” [in China the order of one’s first and surname is reversed] is sewn directly on the upper back in red tackle twill.
The jersey comes laundered and as-issued displaying light-to-moderate game wear. A magnificent gamer worn by one of the largest men ever to play professional basketball and a true global ambassador of the game to this day. It comes directly from the personal collection of Coby Karl (son of longtime NBA coach George Karl) who played in the NBA from 2007-10. He received all items from his collection either straight from the player or through his father.
LOA from Coby Karl.
