Fresh off his retirement announcement presented here is a pair of Tim Duncan's game-worn Adidas signature model shoes from his most decorated season in the NBA. In 2002-03 Duncan earned league MVP honors while leading the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA championship. He was named MVP of the Finals as well. What didn't the 6'11" big man Shaq nicknamed "The Big Fundamental" accomplish that season? The #1 overall pick in the 1997 draft out of Wake Forest University Timmy certainly lived up to and exceeded all expectations over his brilliant 19-year NBA career as he won 1997-98 NBA Rookie of the Year honors two league MVP awards and led the Spurs to five NBA titles. The 15-time All-Star finished his outstanding career with career averages of 19 points 10.8 rebounds 3 assists and 2.2 blocks. He will certainly be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and is considered by many the greatest power forward of all-time (although he played center for most of his later years).
According to the consignor the shoes were sourced through an NBA employee who received them as a gift from Kevin Willis Duncan's Spurs teammate from 2002-04. They are attributed to San Antonio's April 29 2003 home playoff victory one of Duncan's most complete games of the 2003 post-season. In Game 5 of the Spurs first round match-up against the Phoenix Suns Duncan put up a monster statline of 23 points 17 rebounds 6 assists and 5 blocks as the Spurs won it 94-92. Of course at that time this was just Timmy being Timmy. He averaged 23.3 points and 12.9 rebounds during the regular season as the league's MVP. The style of the shoes clearly matches game photos.
Mostly white with rubber toe sections the Adidas 'TD21' sneakers come in Duncan's size 16 and have a design similar to modern Adidas Superstars. "T 21 D" is stitched in Spurs-themed colors on the outer hologram panel. "SAMPLE NOT FOR RESALE" is stamped in black on in interior. Duncan has signed both shoes on the outer ankles with "#21 Spurs" inscribed in 8/10 black marker. The left shoe contains its original Adidas insole; it is missing from the right shoe most likely replaced by a custom-fitted orthotic insert. The right shoe has a 1" tear on the front toe section likely from wear and tear on the court. Other than that they come as-issued and problem-free showing solid wear including scuff marks and heel drag. Offered for the first time publicly these are surely one of the finest examples of Tim Duncan gamers to hit the hobby.
