In 2001 future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning--competing in his fourth season with the Indianapolis Colts--passed for 4131 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also threw 23 interceptions as the Colts went 6-10 and missed the playoffs. It would be just the 2nd time in Peyton's storied career that his team had a losing record. In fact Manning led his team to the playoffs every season thereafter whether with the Colts or during the twilight of his career in Denver and was essentially the face of the NFL during that stretch.
This lot features Peyton's game-used signed and inscribed Indianapolis Colts helmet from the 2001 season. The consignor of the lotreceived this helmet as part of an Upper Deck game-used product redemptionprogram. The Colts helmet matches the style worn during the 2001 season (Getty 506300 and 544191) based on the presence of a USA flag decal (started in 2001) as well as the design of the shell and facemask. In 2002 Manning began using a gray mask with a more angular shape.
The white shell with the Colts' blue horseshoe logo decals on each side has Peyton's iconic uniform No. "18" blue decal on the rear above a team-labeled neck guard. Decals of the NFL shield logo warning label and the aforementioned USA flag are affixed around his uniform numbers on the back. A blue Riddell decal is affixed across the forehead. The chinstrap is missing but all other elements are present as-issued and problem-free including the original blue facemask and clip-on ear pads. A Riddell VSR-4 product label appears inside the right earhole with a size "L" stamp inside the left earhole hidden by its pad. The helmet shows solid game use with some paint transfers and other marks on the outer shell. Manning's shiny autograph with "18" and "Game Worn" inscribed in 9-10/10 blue marker adorns the right side of the helmet.
Includes COA from Upper Deck. Full LOA from JSA for autograph. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
