This 2001 Carolina Clubs professional model batting practice bat was used by Dominican legend Manny Ramirez during his first season as a Boston Red Sox—the beginning of an eight-year run in Boston that would culminate in two World Series championships and cement his legacy as one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history. Ramirez arrived in Boston with enormous expectations after his Cleveland years, and this bat documents the very start of that storied chapter.
The uncracked bat shows evidence of excellent use. Several ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on all sides of the barrel. Ball marks include green ink transfers and white leather scuffs are visible on the barrel. Cleat marks are visible on the right, left and back barrel. The handle has been carefully scored (nearly 10") and the knob edge has been taped—both custom features on many Man-Ram bats.
John Taube of PSA/DNA has deemed this piece of lumber a batting practice specimen—still a very compelling piece for Red Sox and baseball collectors who cherish anything from one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time.
