Presented here is a pair of Shaquille O’Neal’s circa 2001-03 game-worn and dual-autographed sneakers from the Los Angeles Lakers’ era of dominance at the turn of the millennium. Shaq earned 15 All-Star appearances over his sensational career but it wasn’t until he signed with the Lakers—joining a teenaged Kobe Bryant in 1996 and head coach Phil Jackson a few years later—that he got that sweet taste of victory champagne. His first title came at the conclusion of L.A.’s 1999-2000 campaign in which O’Neal was named league MVP. In 2000-01 the “Diesel” helped L.A. breeze through the playoffs undefeated sweeping all three series until the NBA Finals where they defeated Philadelphia in five to go back-to-back. They lost only one game the entire 2001 postseason. Shaq and the Lakers completed their epic “Three-Peat” in 2001-02 by sweeping New Jersey. He was named Finals MVP for the third straight time. These colossal kicks were sourced through a longtime Lakers employee who wishes to remain anonymous.

The mid-top Dunkman signature model sneakers come in white with a yellow-gold tone and a shiny chrome-like silver panel on the bottom. They are devoid of a manufacturer or size tag but appear to come in his monster size 22. “SHAQ” is stamped on the white tongues and rear heels with his No. “34” over the toes. The Dunkman logo (a silhouette of Shaq dunking) appears on the outer ankles and lower heels in silver. That same logo along with his No. “34” appear in large rubber purple and gold Lakers colors on the outsoles. The laces appear to be the originals. One of the interior insoles is missing (right shoe). Both shoes display significant wear with scuffing on the exterior evidence of purple sock-sweating on the interior and proper heel drag. Shaq has signed both shoes in 9/10 black Sharpie with his No. “34” inscribed. The Dunkman brand is one of Shaq’s many entrepreneurial business ventures he oversaw during the course of his playing days something he continues to do now while moonlighting as a TNT analyst with Chuck Kenny and Ernie.
