In 1998 the Kentucky Wildcats coached by Tubby Smith won the NCAA Mens Basketball Championship by defeating Utah in the title game 78-69. The Wildcats finished the season with an impressive record of 35-4 and made the championship game only after defeating No. 1 ranked Duke (86-84) and Stanford (86-85) in the quarter and semifinals respectively. This lot features 6 2 junior guard Wayne Turners game-worn Wildcats jersey from that epic season. It marked Turners second NCAA championship season as he contributed 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game during the campaign. Turner set the NCAA record for games played with 151 in his four years at UK (it has since been broken). The two-tone (blue and white) size 44 Nike XL jersey shows good game use with noticeable fraying on both the jerseys numbers (5) and lettering (KENTUCKY and TURNER). The back of the jersey even appears to be sporting a blood stain on the No. 5. Turner who played three games for the Boston Celtics during the 1999-00 NBA season. The jersey comes with excellent provenance as it was gifted to Turner's childhood friend and fellow prep basketball star Mark Jenkins who also worked as a Celtics ball boy.
