Sweet-swinging Ken Griffey Jr. followed up his 56-homer American League MVP campaign in 1997 by blasting another AL-leading 56 bombs in 1998 while wearing this offered gem for his beloved Seattle Mariners. It was perhaps the quietest 56-HR season in MLB history as all attention was on the chase for 61 between McGwire and Sosa in the NL that year. And while the MVP eluded him in '98, Junior earned his ninth straight All-Star appearance, ninth consecutive Gold Glove, and another Silver Slugger award with his .284 average, 120 runs scored and 146 RBI.
The home white button-up jersey has Russell Athletic manufacturer’s tagging on the left front tail indicating size 46 with wash instructions, two flag tags (100% Polyester and 2" Extra Body Length), and a "1998" year label. Across the chest is “MARINERS” done in navy on teal on silver sparkle tackle twill. On the reverse is Griffey's player number “24” in navy on teal tackle twill and “GRIFFEY” arched on a white nameplate in the same color scheme. On the left sleeve is the Mariners team disc patch. On the right sleeve is the Russell “R” embroidered. Junior has autographed the reverse side in 8/10 blue marker.
All specs on this fine knit specimen are accurate when compared to game images, which is not often the case for many Griffey gamers circulating the hobby. It should also be noted that Griffey wore both size 46 and 48 during the 1998 season. The jersey is properly tagged and shows ample wear with evidence of piling, stretching, light fraying, and some loose threads. One of the better Junior jerseys we've encountered, it even comes with a Mill Creek letter signed by "The Kid" himself. Also includes JSA LOA for his signature.
