Pep Guardiola is widely considered the greatest manager in the history of professional soccer. Just one other man, Luis Enrique, has guided his clubs to the continental “treble” twice. Yet only Pep’s squads have the longest win streaks in La Liga (FC Barcelona), Bundesliga (Bayern Munich), and the Premier League where the Catalan prodigy has built Manchester City into a world football power since his tenure began there in 2016.
Before becoming a legendary coach, Guardiola starred on the pitch for Barcelona (1990-2001) primarily as a defensive midfielder known for his adept playmaking and tactical brilliance from the back. Part of Johan Cruyff's “Dream Team” that won Barca’s first European Cup [UEFA Champion’s League] in 1992, Pep helped lead the club to four straight La Liga titles (1991-94) and served as team captain from 1997-2000 until he moved to Seria A in Italy. As a National Team player, Guardiola earned 47 caps for Spain, appearing in the 1994 World Cup and 2000 Euro Cup.
Featured here is a Pep Guardiola FC Barcelona match-worn jersey from the 1998/99 season. The orange long-sleeved shirt, used as a third alternate style from home and aways, has a thick royal blue stripe (outlined in maroon) across the front with an embroidered F.C.B. crest. The reverse has “GUARDIOLA” in blue affixed letters across the upper back with his No. 4 in a blue-on-pink format. The La Liga logo is applied to the right sleeve. The V-neck and sleeve ends are designed with elastic navy blue and maroon trim. Proper Nike tagging is stamped inside the collar with size L indicated. The clean shirt has tremendous display qualities, showing light-to-moderate use with visible wear on the La Liga patch and back number.
Includes LOA from MEARS and letter of provenance from Marcos Teixeira, a longtime Technical Coordinator for the Brazil National Team and Real Madrid; he is also the nephew of former CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) President Ricardo Teixeira.
