In 1996 the Atlanta Braves were the defending World Series Champions and once again took the National League pennant after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals four games tothree after overcoming a three-games-to-one deficit. In fact the Braves became only the eighth team in baseball history to win a best-of-seven postseason series after being down 3-1 and the first to overcome such a deficit in the NLCS. They came roaring back in decisive fashion outscoring the Cardinals 32-1 over the final three games of the series. Atlanta's stellar pitching staff was led by John Smoltz (24 wins) and both Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine (15 wins apiece). In the Fall Classic however the Braves lost to the A.L. Champion New York Yankees in six games despite taking a two-games-to-none advantage in the early going.This lot features Glavine's autographed and game-worn 1996 Atlanta Braves home jersey.
The white polyester button-down jersey which shows moderate usage reads "Braves" across the front in script red tackle twill outlined in navy blue with the team's trademark tomahawk logo immediately below it. On thebottom left front tail is the proper Wilson tagging ("TAILORED EXCLUSIVELY FOR PRESTIGE TEAMS") complete with washing instructions included and aflag tag reading "44" to indicate the size. Just below that is a white cloth tag reading "96" in blue chain stitching to indicate the season. On the reverse is a white sewn-on nameplate in semi-circle fashion thatreads "GLAVINE" in navy blue tackle twill letters. Glavine's uniform number "47" in red tackle twill numbers outlined in navy blue that stretch eight inches tall and he has signed the No. 7 in dark blue marker. Atlanta'sred piping outlined in navy blue extends down the front of the jersey as well as around the collar and both sleeves. All seven original buttons appearintact.
