Here is a sparkling game-worn and autographed jersey from Ozzie Smith one of the most beloved members of the standout St. Louis Cardinals clubs of the 1980's and 1990's. "The Wizard" was known for his defensive brilliance and set major league records for career assists (8375) and double plays (1590) by a shortstop (the latter since broken by Omar Vizquel) as well as the National League record with 2511 career games at the position. Smith won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons (19801992). A 15-time All-Star he accumulated 2460 hits and 580 stolen bases during his career and won the NL Silver Slugger Award as the best-hitting shortstop in 1987. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2002. Inside the left front tail is the Rawlings manufacturers tag with attached flag tags SET 1 1996 and 40. Across the front is the team Cardinals on a Bat embroidered in red and yellow chain stitch with a navy blue embroidered border. Player No. 1 appears on both the front and back. Player name O. Smith appears on back on a white nameplate. All these numbers and letters are done in navy blue on red tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the Busch Stadium 30 patch. Ozzie has signed the front in blue marker on the right side directly opposite his No. 1. The jersey is properly tagged shows light game use and is essentially problem free save only for the fifth button from the top missing on the six-button front.
