NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino played 17 years behind center for the Miami Dolphins and took the team to the Super Bowl in just his second season. He finished his career in 1999 with 61361 passing yards and 420 touchdown passes. This lot features his game-worn Miami Dolphins helmet from the 95 and 96 seasons a two-year stretch in which he compiled 6463 passing yards and threw for 41 touchdowns. The rare and exceptional helmet was sourced from a former team equipment manager and the season from which it was used marked the last year the team used this Dolphins logo before it was redesigned prior to the start of the 97 season.
The well-worn Riddell headgear shows incredible game use with multiple scratches and scuff marks from on-the-field collisions. The Dolphins trademark logo decals are aligned equally on either side while Marinos iconic No. 13 the NFL shield aqua colored warning label and the Dolphins rear bumper are located on the rear just above the neck. Marinos uniform number can also be found in black marker inside the left earhole. The interior suspension padding is all intact and appears problem-free. The Riddell aqua facemask/cage and accompanying white chinstrap appear to be the originals and show excellent use as well. The Schutt mask clips are dated "96" for further year confirmation. It was quite common in that era to refurbish helmets for use the following season so this one most likely was used both years.
