These remarkable jersey and pants were worn by the legendary enforcer Marty McSorley during the 1994-95 Los Angeles Kings season. McSorley rose to fame after a trade in September 1985 brought him to the Edmonton Oilers. His arrival and physical presence soon made Edmonton's incumbent enforcer Dave Semenko expendable and McSorley inherited the title of "Wayne Gretzky's Bodyguard." He would remain with the Kings until an August 1993 trade sent him to Pittsburgh but his stay in Pittsburgh would be brief (only 47 games) and the Kings realizing that trading McSorley had been a mistake re-acquired him on February 16 1994. Back with the Kings he assisted on Gretzky's goal which broke Gordie Howe's all-time goal-scoring record. On March 14 1996 McSorley left the Kings' organization for good in a trade to the New York Rangers. He was later acquired by the San Jose Sharks spent two seasons there and then returned to Edmonton as a free agent in October of 1998. After completing the 1995-96 season with the Rangers McSorley returned to the West Coast after being acquired by the San Jose Sharks in August 1996. He would spend two injury-plagued seasons with the Sharks before returning to Edmonton as a free agent in October 1998. He left after one season and signed with the Boston Bruins in December 1999. As a Bruin his NHL career would come to a sudden and infamous end in a game against the Vancouver Canucks on February 21 2000 when McSorley swung his stick and hit Donald Brashear in the head with two seconds left in the game. Brashear fell backwards and hit his head hard on the ice losing consciousness and suffering a Grade III concussion. McSorley was charged with assault and suspended by the NHL for the remainder of the 19992000 season (including the playoffs) missing 23 games. The British Columbia Provincial Court found him guilty of assault with a weapon for his attack on Brashear and he was sentenced to 18 months probation. The trial was the first for an on-ice attack by an NHL player since Dino Ciccarelli's in 1988. After his assault conviction his NHL suspension was extended to one full year through February 21 2001. McSorley would never play in another NHL game.

The black road jersey has the CCM label on the collar along with a strip tag with "56." The Los Angeles Kings logo patch is featured on the front in black and white embroidery on silver tackle twill. The knit shirt has gray-and-white highlighted striping on the sleeves and near the waist with the embroidered CCM logo patch and the NHL logo patch at the bottom of the shirt back right. McSorley's No. 33 is on the back in grey black and white stacked tackle twill with his name above in white tackle twill sewn directly to the shirt. His No. 33 is featured on both sleeves as well in this instance with a black white and silver tackle twill scheme. McSorley has signed in silver Sharpie between his numbers on the back adding his "33" inscription to good effect. The shirt shows game use and is in essentially problem-free condition save only for a separating of the stitching at about 3 inches from the top of the collar at the back. The lot includes a Letter of Authenticity from McSorley attesting to its game use and a photo of him presenting the jersey to John Hamilton at the Newport Sports Museum. The black pants from 1992-93 are a fine match with the jersey showing even greater game use and with all elements intact including all the hip leg and back padding and the laces and CCM straps on the waist. The black pants have the CCM logo (some loss of color on the rubber red and blue panels) on the outside of each leg above the NHL logo patch with the white trim dual piping on each leg and the embroidered Kings patch on the front left leg above the "Supra CCM" embroidery. Pants bearing a flag tag on the inside waist of "42" and "106 CM" are problem free with CCM embroidered belt straps and laces intact. McSorley has added another silver Sharpie signature this time above the Kings logo patch on the left leg adding his No. 33 inscription.

In addition to McSorley's LOA it comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Fairmore Sports Inc. and a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
