Here is a superb jersey from one of the most revered figures in the history of the St. Louis Cardinals franchise. An outstanding second baseman Red Schoendienst played for 19 years with the Cardinals New York Giants and Milwaukee Braves and was named to 10 All Star teams. He then managed the Cardinals from 1965 through 1976 the second-longest managerial tenure in the team's history (behind Tony La Russa). Under his direction St. Louis won the 1967 and 1968 National League pennants and the 1967 World Series and he was named National League Manager of the Year in both 1967 and 1968. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989. Schoendienst remains with the Cardinals as a special assistant coach; as of 2014 he has worn a Major League uniform as a player coach or manager for 69 consecutive seasons.
From such a sterling resume comes this blazing white knit button-down garment with Cardinals embroidered across the chest in red-on-blue with a Birds-and-Bat logo embroidered just above. In red-on-blue twill 2 is sewn to the back and left front while Schoendienst is arched on a nameplate atop the back number in like fashion. The left front tails interior is home to a Rawlings Size 50 label and flag tag denoting SET 1 1993. The Hall of Famer has added an absolutely striking black Sharpie autograph to the front right of the shirt underneath Cardinals. Shirt shows light game use.
Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
