Larry Johnson helped the UNLV Runnin' Rebels win an NCAA title in 1990 before becoming the first overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1991 NBA draft and promptly earning Rookie of the Year honors for the 1991-92 season. He made two All-Star teams (both with the Hornets) in his 10-year career that included five seasons with the NY Knicks. An explosive power forward who could score inside and out Johnson never quite reached the high expectations placed upon him due to recurring back problems. His first big endorsement deal was with Converse and their "Grandmama" commercials still resonate as one of the most clever and entertaining campaigns. These Converse React Aero-Jet sneakers were worn by "Grandmama" most likely during the 1993-94 season based on style-matching photos from that period. He has signed each one "Larry Johnson #2" on the toe in 7/10 looking black felt tip pen. The size 15 shoes have Johnson's number "2" stitched in blue on white atop the tongue of both shoes. They show plenty of wear throughout particularly on the toe where there is significant cracking.
