Former point guard Maurice Cheeks played a total of 16 seasons in the NBA the first 11 of which came while competing for the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 11.1 points and 6.7 assists per game throughout his professional tenure and ended his NBA career as a member of the New Jersey Nets for his final campaign (1992-93). Though playing in just 35 regular-season games Cheeks continued to make his presence felt on and off the bench as the Nets finished third in the Atlantic Division.
This lot features Cheeks' autographed and game-worn New Jersey Nets road jersey from his swan-song season. The size 40 blue mesh Champion jersey with red and white piping down either side and around the collar and each sleeve shows noticeable game wear with fraying evident around the letters ("NETS" on the front and "CHEEKS" on the reverse) as well as his uniform number ("10" on either side) all of which is applied in red tackle twill fashion outlined in blue and white. Cheeks has signed the No. 10 on the zero in black marker on the back of the jersey. Proper manufacturer's tagging from CHAMPION appears on the front left tail via two sewn-on labels. The first reads: "1992-93 Designed and Tailored Exclusively for the NEW JERSEY NETS ID # BODY LENGTH +2." The second tag reads: "IT TAKES A LITTLE MORE TO BE A CHAMPION 40" along with complete washing instructions. The NBA's officially embroidered logo man patch appears on the front left sleeve.
