Certainly one of the most colorful personalities in NBA history Charles Barkley parlayed his considerable basketball talents and a Hall of Fame career with his equally imposing rhetorical skills to a post-career entree into television. With nifty nicknames like "Sir Charles" and "The Round Mound of Rebound" Barkley established himself as one of the league's most dominant power forwards. Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 5th pick of the 1984 NBA Draft. He was selected to the All-NBA First Team five times the All-NBA Second Team five times earned 11 NBA All-Star appearances and won two gold medals as a member of USA Basketball's first two Olympic "Dream Teams." In 2000 he retired as the fourth player in NBA history to achieve 20000 points 10000 rebounds and 4000 assists and was a first ballot Naismith Hall of Fame selection in 2006. This lot presents an incredible pair of Barkley's game-worn Nike sneakers from the 1992-93 season his first with the Phoenix Suns and the only year he was voted league MVP. He averaged 25.6 points 12.2 rebounds and a career high 5.1 assists leading the Suns to an NBA best 62–20 record and a berth in the NBA Finals--the only Finals appearance of his career. Unfortunately they went up against MJ and the Bulls. We know how that ended.

These Nike Air Max Force sneakers comes in size 16 with a black suede exterior and black "FORCE" strap over the laces. Barkley's uniform number "34" is embroidered on the outer ankle with "AIR MAX" on the outer tongue and Nike tagging on the reverse. "921012 FTPS" is properly labeled on the interior tag to denote the manufacturing date and player-issued status; these shoes were not available to the public. A gray elastic support section inside adds stability for the feet. The original black laces and Nike insoles are present. Sir Charles has autographed each shoe in 7/10 silver marker. They display solid game use with all structural elements well-preserved save for very minor cracking and crumbling on the midsole (no separation from the outsole). Before Barkley sported these black-on-black Air Max Force shoes in the NBA the University of Michican's notorious Fab Five wore the exact same style and colorway when they took the basketball world by storm in 1991-92 and changed on-court fashion forever. Thus the model is nicknamed the Nike "Fab 5" and represents an important part of basketball lore attracting both Sneakerheads and game-used collectors.

These Barkley gamers come directly from the personal collection of Coby Karl son of longtime NBA coach George Karl who played in the NBA from 2007-10. He received all items from his collection either straight from the player or through his father. Can't beat that provenance! While not confirmed it is very likely that Sir Charles wore this pair during the NBA playoffs--and possibly the Finals--as game photos are style-matched from March '93 on.

LOA from Coby Karl. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (auto).
