In 1991, “Iron Mike” Tyson was trying to recapture the magic that had made him one of the most exciting heavyweights in boxing history. Upheaval in his person life and lack of training led to his loss of the World Heavyweight Champion title to Buster Douglas in 1990. Tyson attempted to stage a comeback, and after two well-received victories over Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, was given a chance to reclaim his title from Evander Holyfield who had taken it after defeating Douglas. The much anticipated title bout was scheduled for November 8, 1991, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the fight was never to be as Tyson injured his rib in training and any chance of a rescheduling was squelched when Tyson was sent to jail for rape. This Type 1 photo was taken before Tyson’s injury and shows he and Evander Holyfield at a press conference at Caesars Palace.
The Type 1 photo measures 8” x 10” and comes in immaculate condition. Mike Tyson has boldly signed the area above his image in black marker, and a JSA sticker has been affixed to the lower right side. The back carries Tom Casino’s credit stamp. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA with a JSA COA sticker for Iron Mike's auto.
