Getting to the mountain top is hard. Staying on top can be even harder. In the 1987-88 season the "Showtime" Lakers became the first team in 19 years to repeat as NBA Champions holding off the "Bad Boys" of Detroit in a thrilling seven-game Finals. Presented here is a 1988 Los Angeles Lakers 14-karat gold championship ring issued to a front office member forhis contributions to the organization's success. Announcing "World Champion Lakers 1988" around the perimeter the face houses 18 round cut diamonds over a purple stone background surrounding an impressively large diamond stone at center. Two additional small diamonds flank the year below. The 21 total diamonds equal 1/2 carat in all. One shank features a red and blue NBA logo andthe words "Back to Back 1987-1988." The other shank has the staff member's name "CLANCY" and reports the Finals result (4 -3) below a Lakers teamlogo in purple. The '1' has worn off the "14K JOSTENS" stamping inside the band. Coming in size 9 1/4 the ring weighs 44 grams and presents in NM-MT overall conditionwith a well-preserved face. Along with the '87 title ring in Lot 471 this is a scarce championship ring from the glory days of Magic Kareem Worthy and Riley that looks just like the version they were issued.
