Hall of Fame Manager Whitey Herzog guided the 1987 St. Louis Cardinals not only to the N.L. East flag with a 91-71 regular-season record but also to the N.L. pennant by outlasting the San Francisco Giants in sevengames. Though they lost to the Minnesota Twins in the World Series four games to three the ’87 campaign was deemed a great effort with a memorable Fall Classic to boot.This lot features Herzog’s game worn St. Louis Cardinals road jersey from that season.
The pullover V-neck polyester jersey sports the proper Rawlings manufacturer’s tag (size 48) on the inside left front tail withthe iconic "Cardinals" in red on navy embroidery with red birds on a yellow embroidered bat sewn across the chest. Below that on the front is his uniform number "24" in red on navy tackle twill which shows amplefraying of the numbers. A large "24" is sewn on the back in red on navy blue tackle twill with his name plate appearing above the number with "HERZOG" done in red on navy blue tackle twill. Noticeable fraying isevident on the lettering as well. The Cardinals' trademark red white and blue elastic knit adorns the collar and arm openings. Herzog has also signed the front of the jersey in fine-point black marker and the signature remains strong.
