By 1977 Bruce Sutter was entrenched as the Cubs’ closer finishing with 31 saves garnering the first of six All-Star Game invitations. The Sutter name became known throughout the baseball world with his remarkable1979 season where he won the National League Cy Young Award after tying the Senior Circuit record with 37 saves. Dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals before the ‘81 campaign Sutter proved to be the missing piece for achampionship-caliber club. Not only did he average almost 32 saves over the four seasons he was with the Cards establishing a NL record for most saves in a season with 45 in 1984 he also helped the team win the 1982 World Series.

This lot features Sutter’s 1982 St. Louis St. Louis Cardinals game worn road jersey and is attributed to being used during the playoffs and World Series that year. The pullover V-neck polyester baby blue jersey sports the proper Rawlings manufacturer’s tag (size 48) on the inside left front tail with the iconic "Cardinals" in red on navy embroidery with red birds on a yellow embroidered bat sewn across the chest. Below that on the front is his uniform number "42" in red on navy tackle twill. A large "42" is sewn on the back in red on navy blue tackle twill with his name plate appearing above the number with "SUTTER" done in red on navy blue tackle twill. The Cardinals' trademark red white and blue elastic knit adorns the collar and arm openings. The jersey shows light to moderate use.
