The St. Louis Cardinals made three trips to the World Series during the decade of the 1980s winning their first appearance four-games-to-three over the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982 before falling to the K.C. Royals and Minnesota Twins in 1985 and 1987 respectively in dramatic fashion. It was an impressive stretch of dominating baseball for St. Louis led by the likes of shortstop extraordinaire Ozzie Smith ("The Wizard") the roadrunner-like speed of outfielder Vince Coleman and the power hitting exploits of first baseman Jack Clark.
Offered here is an exquisite 14-karat gold ring commemorating the team's 1987 success which included a 95-67 regular-season record and the N.L. pennant. This is an owners version of the ring that Anheuser Busch gave to his friends and family the the family name inscribed on the side. The players were actually issued lesser 10-karat gold versions.
The 1987 "National League Champions" ring with "CTO - 14K" engraved on the inside the band features a single real diamond plus three small red stones within "ST. LOUIS CARDINALS" in raised lettering design on the face. One shank includes a design of Busch Stadium a Cardinal bird holding a bat the words "World Series 15" and "St. Louis Cardinals" and the season attendance ("3072122"). The other shank includes a design of the words "BUSCH" "Cardinals" and the Cardinals team logo. The ring is essentially in Near Mint as-issued and problem-free condition.
