In 1987 a year removed from their devastating seven-game World Series defeat to the N.L. Champion New York Mets the Boston Red Sox posted a 78-84 record and finished in fifth place in the American League East Divisional standings. Outfielder Dave Henderson who was their ALCS hero from the previous season was back in a Sox uniform although he was limited to just 75 games on the season in which he collected 43 hits andincluding eight home runs and drove in 25 runs. This lot features the late Henderson's 1987 Boston Red Sox game-worn road jersey.
The well worn size 48 polyester button-down grayjersey reads "BOSTON" across the front in navy blue tackle twill letters. On the left front tail is the proper Rawlings manufacturer's "TheMark of a Pro" tagging alongside which there are two flag tags: "3 INCH EXTRA LENGTH" and "SET 1 1987." On the left sleeve is a specially embroidered "Fenway Park 75th Anniversary 1912 - 1987" patch commemorating the oldest ballpark in the majors. On the back of thejersey is Henderson's uniform number "42" in blue tackle twill numerals that stretch 7.5" tall. Some puckering and fraying of the lettersand numbers is evident. All six original buttons down the front of the jersey appear to be intact. Getty 50804418 provides great style match possibly a photo-match.
