In 1987 after winning the American League Rookie of the Year award Jose Canseco and his Oakland As teammate Mark McGwire were in full swing with McGwire just a rookie clubbing a league-leading 49 homers and Canseco belting 31 round-trippers. To no ones surprise Big Mac was named the 87 A.L. Rookie of the Year thus keeping the ROY title in Oakland. This lot features a Rawlings Mark McGwire professional model game-used bat that McGwire used during the 87 season. The 33.5 bat model #256B shows considerable game use with ball contact marks and ball stitch marks present on the barrel. Whats more McGwire signed dated personalized and inscribed it in fine-point black marker to Canseco: JOSE THE DUO FOR MANY YEARS TO COME Mark McGwire 9-24-87. As it turns out this bat can be traced to McGwires 47th home run game of the 1987 season a 4-2 defeat to the Chicago White Sox at Oakland-Alameda County Stadium. Despite the loss McGwire launched a bomb over the center field wall off Chisox southpaw Floyd Bannister in the bottom of the ninth inning. Unfortunately he ripped it with nobody on base. "256B." and "278 7" stamped onto top of knob. "33 1/2" in blue ink and "25" in black marker also present on top of knob. A terrific piece of game-used sports memorabilia from the man who finished his big league career with 583 home runs.

Includes a Full LOA from PSA/DNA with a Game Used 10 Grade (Malta/Taube).

Autograph and inscription are Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
