Presented here is a treat for golf collectors: Larry Mize's 1987 Masters tournament-worn polo from his championship-winning round at Augusta National. It was the only major championship of Mize's PGA career and he did it in dramatic fashion knocking off Hall of Famers Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros in a sudden-death playoff. The magical chip shot at the 11th hole of the playoff to win it was certainly a career defining moment for Larry Mize and we have the shirt he wore to savor that moment further enhanced by a letter from Mize himself.

At the end of Round 4 on Sunday April 12 Mize was tied with Ballesteros and Norman who missed a 20-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole that would have won it in regulation. The playoff began on the par-4 10th hole where Ballesteros failed to save par and was eliminated. On the next hole the par-4 11th with a pond on the left Mize's approach went well right and landed off the green about 140 feet from the hole. Norman played conservatively to the right fringe and left himself a 50-foot putt; he could almost taste the green jacket. But Mize pulled a rabbit out of the hat for his third shot hitting a miraculous chip with a sand wedge that rolled in the cup for birdie. A stunned Norman had a chance to tie but he missed his putt--one of many unlucky breaks in Norman's career. It still stands as perhaps the most astonishing finish at a major championship in golf history. Mize's win was widely celebrated because he was born and raised in Augusta GA and had worked the scoreboard at Augusta National as a teenager.

The purple and black Aureus brand polo shirt comes in size medium and is made of 55% cotton and 45% polyester. Mize has signed the front with the date "4-12-87" inscribed in 8-9/10 black marker. It shows appropriate wear with signs of stretching. It should be noted that the shirt was framed for display purposes at the Newport Sports Museum leaving a few minor sticky marks on the fabric that appear easily removable.

Includes 1/8/1992 LOA from Larry Mize. Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
