1986 Fleer Basketball stands as the most popular and influential sports card set in the modern era. Anchored by Michael Jordan, it features rookie cards of several other Hall of Famers including Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins, Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler, James Worthy and Chris Mullin. This high-grade complete set of 132 is hobby-fresh and includes the 11-card ’86 Fleer Sticker set as well. Our consignor built these sets entirely from scratch, pulling cards straight from '86 Fleer packs.
We recently sent 17 cards to PSA for grading, and 14 came back NM-MT 8 or higher. The #57 Jordan rookie is EX-MT 6 and his #8 Sticker RC is an impressive NM-MT 8. Other notables in PSA NM-MT 8 are #1 Kareem, #7 Barkley, #9 Bird, #31 Dr. J, #32 Ewing, #53 Magic, #68 Malone, #82 Olajuwon, #109 Thomas, #121 Wilkins and Olajuwon's #9 Sticker. Earning PSA MINT 9 were #26 Drexler and Magic's #7 Sticker.
The remaining raw cards appear NM to Mint with solid centering overall, presenting more advantageous grading opportunities. The Sticker cards – notorious for wax staining (especially on the backs) – have clean and smooth surfaces on both sides. Considering the hobby’s transition to such strict grading standards nowadays, this set easily ranks up there with ones completely graded eight years ago with 8-9 GPAs in the PSA registry.
