Here is a Chile National Team home jersey from the 1986-87 season worn by striker Juan Carlos Letelier and preserved in the Oscar Bernardi Collection. Letelier was a prominent Chilean forward during this period of significant change for South American football. "Lete" played in the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain and scored his team's final goal against Algeria. He earned 57 caps and scored 18 goals for his country from 1979 to 1989.
The red long-sleeve jersey made by Puma comes with subtle white pinstripes throughout its entirety, a white V-neck collar, and a white accent along the sleeves. The left chest bears the embroidered Chile national team crest — a circular badge with the star and Chile national colors in blue, red and white. A maker's label indicating size "M" is visible at the collar interior. The reverse displays a white felt "9" numeral with the distinctive Puma leaping cat logo incorporated into the base of the number. The jersey exhibits substantial match wear with heavy fabric pilling visible on the sleeves.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
