Presented here is the torch Hall of Fame basketball player Jamaal Wilkes used during the 84-day 9000-mile relay that meandered from New York across the U.S. and brought the Olympic flame to the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles. The torch with a classic lamp design measures 23 inches in length with the top about 5" in diameter and weighs a little over 2 lbs. The top section features the Olympic motto in Latin "CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS" (Faster Higher Stronger) around the edge along with the five Olympic rings and a detailed engraving of the Los Angeles Coliseum encircling below. A tan leather wrap covers the handle down to a 2" brass fitting at the end stamped with the LA84 logo 1980 LAOOC 1983 LAOOC and Turner Industries (manufacturer & designer). A second brass fitting about 3/4 up the handle has an engraving that reads "Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad Los Angeles 1984." The flame holder at the top rises an inch above the main opening.
The torch shows evidence of having been lit and used by the former L.A. Lakers great but has been very-well maintained and presents in Near Mint condition. Comes with its original black leather carrying case with the "1983 LAOOC Torch Relay Foundation" logo on the outside. Includes LOA from Jamaal Wilkes.
