ADDENDUM: BAT WAS NOT USED IN 1984 NLCS AS STATED IN CATALOG. GARVEY MOST LIKELY INSCRIBED ANOTHER BAT FROM HIS RACK FOLLOWING THE SERIES OR THE NEXT SEASON.
1983-85 Steve Garvey Louisville Slugger Professional Signature Model C263 game used bat inscribed by the San Diego Padres star first baseman. On the barrel is inscribed in 8/10 blue ink "Twyla & Harry My Best Wishes Steve Garvey 10-6-84 NATL. LEAGUE CHAMPIONS PADRES 6 CUBS 3". This refers to Game 5 of the 1984 National League Championship Series in which the Padres downed the Cubs 3 games to 2 to capture their first National League Championship in team history. Garvey batted .400 with a home run and 7 RBI to be named Most Valuable Player of the NLCS. Garvey made an error in recording the date of game - 10/6/84 instead of the correct date of 10/7/84. Bat exhibits excellent game use with heavy pine tar at the handle numerous ball contact marks on the barrel bat rack marks and a 4-inch crack at the handle. '6' in black marker on top of knob. Bat weighs 34.3 ounces and is 34 inches long. Great memento from the MVP of the 1984 NLCS.
