Offered here is a match-worn Tampa Bay Rowdies NASL jersey from a July 28, 1982 friendly against São Paulo, worn by Argentine midfielder Carlos Babington and preserved in the Oscar Collection.
The short-sleeve jersey is constructed in adidas green polyester with a bold horizontal yellow and green striped pattern on the sleeves — instantly recognizable as the Rowdies' flamboyant kit of the era. The jersey features a yellow turn-down collar with a center button placket, and the adidas Trefoil logo in yellow on the left chest. The team name "ROWDIES" appears in a distinctive hand-lettered white gothic-style font across the chest below the number, accompanied by the bold "#22" numeral — creating one of the most visually distinctive shirt designs in NASL history. The reverse carries applied white "BABINGTON" lettering above the "#22" numeral in the same graphic style.
The jersey shows authentic match use including fabric wear, scuff marks visible on the front chest area, and general softening consistent with NASL play. Carlos Babington was a technically gifted Argentine international who had earlier starred for Huracán and was a fixture in the NASL during the league's celebrated era. From the Oscar Collection, with documented provenance from the specific friendly against São Paulo.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
