From the the great Dr. J Julius Erving who helped legitimize the American Basketball Association and was the best-known player in that league when it merged with the NBA after the 197576 season comes this spectacular pair of Converse All-Star 'Dr. J' brand game-worn and signed shoes from his tenure with the 76ers in the 1980's. The only player voted MVP in both the ABA and the NBA Erving won three championships four MVP Awards and three scoring titles in his 16 years divided between the ABA's Virginia Squires and New York Nets (now the NBA's Brooklyn Nets) and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. He is the sixth-highest scorer in ABA/NBA history with 30026 points (NBA and ABA combined) and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.
He has signed the shoes on the outside of each heel penning "To My Friend Dave from Julius 'Dr. J' Erving #6" on the left shoe and "Julius Dr. J Erving 76ers #6" on the right shoe. The shoes show some game use but come largely as-issued and remarkably pristine. All elements remain completely intact right down to the delicate red leather graphic components including the sewn red stars on each side the red leather Converse logo on the back of the heels and the red all-caps "Dr J" imprinting on the outside panel of each. The Converse label appears on the outside of each tongue with the smaller Size 15 tagging inside. This is a great piece in simply superb condition from one of the most revered players in NBA history.
A Letter of Authenticity is included from 1980's Madison Square Garden security guard who befriended Dr. J over the course of many Knicks-76ers games at MSG.
